39-mile 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Epilogue Edition
Vehicle Description
C3 is pleased to offer the lowest mileage 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible "Epilogue Edition" known to exist on the market. This example left the factory as 1 of 900 triple-black examples produced. The selling dealer, (Rader Volkswagen Inc. of Augusta, Georgia) was commissioned by first owner to install brown leatherette-upholstered seats and door panels from a yellow example he also purchased before taking delivery. Now showing 39 miles, the car was primarily stored in the collection of its first owner until being acquired by the current owner in 2025. Power is provided by an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and equipment includes a black soft top, a louvered engine cover, MacPherson strut front suspension, 15″ Lemmerz wheels, woodgrain dashboard trim, and three-point front seat belts. Work in preparation for the sale included replacing the battery, fuel gauge, and fuel gauge voltage stabilizer as well as changing the oil and transmission fluid, installing replacement drum brake wheel cylinders, and flushing the brake fluid. This 1303 Super Beetle is offered on dealer consignment with a window sticker, a Volkswagen Classic Parts certificate, historical documents and photos, service records, and Georgia registration.
The body is finished in black (L041) with a color-coordinated convertible top. Additional exterior details include a louvered rear engine cover, quarter vent windows, dual mirrors, and running boards. The car received a clay bar paint decontamination service and additional detailing work in January 2026, an itemized receipt for which can be viewed in the gallery below.
Silver-finished 15″ Lemmerz sport steel wheels are mounted with Michelin thin-whitewall tires. The car was factory equipped with a MacPherson strut and coil spring front suspension in place of the standard Beetle’s torsion bar setup. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners, and work in December 2025 involved replacing all four wheel cylinders as well as flushing the brake fluid and aligning the brake shoes.
The black dashboard is accented by a woodgrain appliqué, and further appointments include a heater, a lockable glove box, three-point front seat belts, and crank windows. An October 2014 service invoice indicates that the VDO quartz clock is inoperative.
The four-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg crest and fronts a 100-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 39 miles, a few of which were added under current ownership. The fuel gauge and its associated voltage stabilizer were replaced in December 2025.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four was factory equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, and it produced 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque when new. The battery was replaced and the oil was changed in December 2025, at which time a replacement oil sump gasket was installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, which received a fluid change in December 2025. Additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery below.
The window sticker displays initial delivery to Rader Volkswagen Inc. of Augusta, Georgia, and it lists factory color and equipment data. The car’s total price is noted as $7,339, which includes a $500 dealer fee. A Volkswagen Classic Parts certificate, historical documents and photos, and service records will also accompany the car.
